The Vicky Clement Jones Award Winner 2012
Melissa Crook received the 2012 Vicky Clement Jones Award for her exceptional contribution as a volunteer speaker.
Melissa Crook, volunteer speaker
Melissa is a fantastic volunteer speaker who has shared her experiences with a wide range of Macmillan staff and supporters.
Through speaking about her cancer journey Melissa has enabled people to understand the difficulties a cancer diagnosis can bring and how Macmillan can help make a difference.
Although Melissa finds it hard to talk about her experiences, she has spoken at a wide range of events including intern and staff inductions, fundraising committee meetings, special events and meetings with corporate partners. Each time Melissa has spoken she has received fantastic feedback from staff and supporters, and has been a huge inspiration. Through her talks she has encouraged people to go above and beyond what they might have done for Macmillan.
Melissa brings a blend of passion, fact and emotion to every situation in which she presents. She is always willing to help out where she can. The sheer volume of talks she delivers is truly inspiring.
Through her willingness to engage with mainstream media including an interview with The Sun newspaper, Melissa has helped capture and engage many different audiences, and she has no doubt helped many people who are facing a similar situation.
