"Macmillan is always there if you need them. And they supported my wife too. Without them, she wouldn't have been able to look after me and I would've fallen even further."
When Paul lost his ability to swallow and had to be fitted with a feeding tube, he was introduced to a Macmillan dietitian, Cathryn.
‘People like Cathryn are so important – they help you get on with your life. She even gave me training so I can change the PEG tube myself while travelling.’
Paul is the first to admit he’s set Cathryn some tough challenges – like deciding to do the Great North Run. But she’s risen to them all.
‘Cathryn pulled out all the stops for me. She got me a new, slim-line tube that I could run with, and even got in touch with one of the British Olympic trainers for advice on diet. There’s no way I could have done it without her.’
Both Paul and Jayne continue to fundraise for Macmillan. ‘They’re very close to our hearts. More like friends really. I feel honoured to have met them and be associated with them.'
