Whether you're taking part in surveys, helping develop a strategy or reviewing a resource, your actions make a big difference. Here Cancer Voices tell you more about the opportunities on offer.
'I was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2002. Once I’d finished treatment I knew I wanted to give something back.
'Participating in the Survivorship programme, as a Cancer Voice, has given me the opportunity to meet regularly with cancer patients who've suffered recurrences and need support dealing with this difficult news. I can help them by sharing my own experiences, or by lending an ear and listening to what they're going through.
'Being a Cancer Voice has helped me in many ways and sharing my story has built my confidence. You can feel very alone when you have cancer. Only a fellow patient really knows the rollercoaster of emotions and fears that you experience. I’ve made many friends through attending meetings and other Cancer Voices events.
'Eight years after being made redundant because of my illness, I’ve finally managed to find a job. I honestly don’t think I would have got to this stage without the confidence and self-belief that being a Cancer Voice has given back to me.'
In 2012 we hosted our first ever Parliamentary question time. Cancer Voices were invited to ask questions in the House of Lords about the future of cancer care in the UK.
