Everything you need to know about Macmillan's Infi-knit.
Thousands of people with cancer struggle to pay their energy bills and we want to make sure that they can keep warm without the worry. That’s why we’ve launched the Infi-knit: an exciting, interactive way for you to support Macmillan’s fuel poverty campaign.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of the high numbers of people with cancer struggling to pay their energy bills. We want to secure as much support as possible to make sure that people with cancer are not living in fuel poverty.
Fuel poverty is when someone has to spend more than 10% of their income heating their home. When people are treated for cancer they’re more likely to feel the cold. They may spend a lot of time at home during treatment or recovery, pushing up their energy bills. Also, they may have less money coming in if they’ve had to stop working. That’s why many people with cancer are living in fuel poverty.
Go to www.infi-knit.org.uk| and tell our knitting machine what makes you feel warm. It can be anything: a person, an object, or feeling. This message will be turned into a unique piece of knitting and added to our woolly scarf petition. We will present the scarf to the government so they can’t ignore our campaign against fuel poverty.
Once you have added your piece of knitting to our woolly scarf petition you will be able to share it with your friends and family. You can do this through your social networking sites, like Facebook and Twitter, or by uploading our Infi-knit widget to your blog. A picture of your knitted piece of scarf will also be sent to you by email so that you can forward it to your friends and family. We want as many people as possible to take part so please share your knitting with everyone - friends, family, colleagues and neighbours!
A woolly scarf is symbolic of trying to keep warm. People with cancer are particularly vulnerable to the cold and many are at risk of fuel poverty. We have created a woolly scarf petition to raise awareness of our campaign.
The wool for the scarf has been kindly donated by Yeoman Yarns.
We’re going to present our woolly scarf petition to the government to show them just how many people support our fuel poverty campaign. We want to make sure that the needs of people with cancer are included in the government’s plans to tackle fuel poverty - and that people with cancer get support with their energy bills.
