Planning your own walking event is easy. Here are some tips to making sure your event is a huge success.
Using a route you know well will help make organising your event easier however don’t let this put you off doing a route you’ve always wanted to try. Whichever route you decide to use make sure you’ve walked it prior to your event, this way you can make sure everyone sticks to the right path.
Check with your local council about whether there are any special permissions required for an event like this. Does the walk cross any local farms or private land? If so let them know about your event as this will ensure that they know in advance and will help avoid problems.
When organising a fundraising event, you are responsible for making sure it poses no risk to others, therefore, you will need to carry out the appropriate risk assessments and consider whether or not you need insurance.
In most cases, for public and/or hazardous events, you may need public liability cover in place. For private events this may not be necessary. Please seek advice if you are unsure. For more information you can contact the Fundraising Support Centre on 0300 1000 200 or by email on fundraising@macmillan.org.uk|.
