Find answers to the most common questions about Macmillan Cancer Support's Tri Club.
We understand that many people who would like to compete in a Triathlon never do so because they feel overwhelmed by the distances or the variety of disciplines involved. The aim of Tri Club is for Team Macmillan to provide a greater level of support through training programmes, kit lists and general support so that you are more confident in entering a Triathlon event.
You will also be able to get in contact with your fellow members of the Tri Club, and by sharing training and race experiences with athletes of a similar ability, improve your own skill level, and perhaps even meet people you can train and enter events with.
Perhaps you are at home on the water, but aren’t so comfortable running or cycling, or maybe you rival Lance Armstrong on a bike but aren’t a strong swimmer. Tri Club encourages it’s members to build towards a Triathlon gradually, by training for and competing in individual events, before entering into a Triathlon when you are comfortable and ready to do so.
For example, you may be someone who has never competed in an organised race. We will support and help you to train for a Swim, a Run and a Cycle with specific training programmes to help you prepare for each individual discipline. You might be someone who feels confident in completing a run and cycle distance event, but uncomfortable with the idea of a distance swim, we would suggest training routines and events that would help you improve.
As well as having access to individual Running, Cycling and Swimming training guides, we will also be able to advice you based on your amount of experience as to what events might suit your skill level.
One of the great perks is that it’s also a great place to meet people in exactly the same situation as yourself. Tri Club is a place where novice triathletes from all over the UK can get together to share experiences and tips, and help one another achieve the goal of completing a Triathlon.
To join the Tri Club, please fill out this application form,| return it the below address and we will be in touch in three working days.
No! Take Tri Club at your own pace. We want you to feel completely comfortable and confident in your own abilities before you enter a Triathlon, so compete in as many events as you wish to. We will support you from the moment you sign up for Tri Club, right through to the moment you cross the finish line at your first triathlon for Team Macmillan.
We suggest that you complete your Run, Swim or Cycle events before you start to fundraise. When you are physically ready to enter a Triathlon simply sign up for a Triathlon event (we have a list of Triathlons on our website) and choose to participate on behalf of Macmillan by securing your own place. You can start a Just Giving or Virgin Money page so friends and family can submit donations online, or submit any cash or cheques you receive to us via post.
We will also send you sponsor forms and fundraising guides, as well as the trademark green jersey of Team Macmillan to help you with your fundraising.
