When you're taking on three disciplines at once, preparation is key. You must have all the equipment listed below in order to take part in your triathlon event.
Most race organisers will not let you compete without a wetsuit, if you are unsure then check first before buying or hiring one.
It’s important to get a good quality wetsuit, this will help increase your speed in the water and also protect you from the chilly temperatures of outdoor swimming. Wetsuits can be expensive to buy so if this is your first triathlon then it may be a good idea to hire your wetsuit.
You can hire a wetsuit for the whole triathlon season therefore you can use it to train in as well as the race itself. A comfortable and well fitted bike is vital for a successful triathlon event.
If you don’t have a bike already then visit your local cycling shop and they can advise you on the most suitable bike for you. Again you don’t necessarily need to purchase a bike you can always hire a bike for the season. Check with your local bike shop on their rental policies or your work place may be part of the Government cycle hire scheme.
Always wear a helmet, you will have to wear one on race day and safety is vital during your training too.
Get your bike serviced at your local cycle shop before race day to make sure it is in tip top condition.
Make sure your bike fits your height, to make cycling comfortable have your seat and handle bars aligned for you.
Always make sure you are visible when cycling on the road, wear high visibility clothing and fit your bike with reflectors ready for cycling in the evenings and in bad weather.
Make sure your feet are protected every step of the way.
We recommend visiting your local running shop for a fitting session; they will assess your running style and weight to find a shoe that is suitable for you.
It may sound obvious but do not forget socks. There are as many types of running socks as there are shoes and you may have to try a few before you find the ones that suit you. A good quality pair of socks should help prevent against blisters and athletes foot.
