Your own place means that you have registered directly with the organisers through www.greatswim.org|. You would have also paid a registration fee of £38 for that place. Once you have registered for your place you would have received a confirmation email from the organisers.
If you have your own place we do not ask for a minimum amount of sponsorship. However we encourage all swimmers to try and raise as much as possible. Whatever you raise we are extremely grateful for and it will go a long way to helping people living with cancer.
When you join Team Macmillan you will be supported throughout your entire British Gas Great North Swim experience. In addition to our initial training and fundraising pack, we will send you regular newsletters full of tips to help you prepare for the big day. And if that isn’t enough, we will be there on the day to give you all the support, encouragement and congratulations you deserve.
Of course! When you sign up to swim the British Gas Great North Swim with Team Macmillan, we will provide you with a comprehensive training pack and regular newsletters full of top training tips, including advice from our Team Macmillan patrons. We will also advise you of other useful sources of information to help you prepare for the big day.
If you get injured while training we recommend you contact your GP, physio or specialist sports injury clinic. They will be able to advise if you are fit enough to swim.
If you do need to withdraw you will need to inform the Great Swim race organisers as soon as possible. Please also let Macmillan know so that we can update our database.
You will receive your race number direct from the race organisers in the two weeks preceding the event. If you do not receive your race pack, then we would advise you to contact the organisers direct by emailing info@greatswim.org|
