When it comes to support, there's no competition. Find out everything you need to know about entering, training and completing the Great North swim.
Entry to the 2013 event is now open at www.greatswim.org|. Once you have your place, register online to join Team Macmillan| and you can help make a difference to the lives of people affected by cancer.
Once you've registered we’ll send you a fundraising pack containing lots of fundraising and training advice.
There's no minimum sponsorship requirement, so we're grateful for any sponsorship you can raise for us.
Register to be part of Team Macmillan online now.| (Own place swimmers only.)
Please fill out our Guaranteed Place application form| and return to us as soon as possible. Your entry fee will be covered, but you'll need to commit to raising £200 in sponsorship for Macmillan.
Our charity places are for the 1 mile distance only - if you would like to swim a different distance you will need to get your own place, but can of course still fundraise for Macmillan.
Your own place means that you've registered directly with the organisers through www.greatswim.org|. You would have also paid a registration fee for that place. Once you've registered for your place you'd have received a confirmation email from the organisers.
If you have your own place we do not ask for a minimum amount of sponsorship. We just encourage and support all swimmers to raise as much as possible. Whatever you raise we are extremely grateful. It will go a long way to helping people living with cancer.
If you have a Guaranteed Charity Place you will need to raise £200 (your entry fee will be paid for).
When you join Team Macmillan you'll be supported throughout your entire Great North Swim experience. In addition to our initial training and fundraising pack, we'll send you regular newsletters full of tips to help you prepare for the big day. And if that isn’t enough, we'll be there on the day to give you all the support, encouragement and congratulations you deserve.
Of course! When you sign up to swim the Great North Swim with Team Macmillan, we'll provide you with a comprehensive training pack and regular newsletters full of top training tips, including advice from our Team Macmillan patrons. We'll also advise you of other useful sources of information to help you prepare for the big day.
If you get injured while training we recommend you contact your GP, physio or specialist sports injury clinic. They'll be able to advise if you're fit enough to swim.
If you do need to withdraw you'll need to inform the Great Swim race organisers as soon as possible. Please also let us know so that we can update our database.
You'll receive your race number direct from the race organisers in the two weeks preceding the event. If you don't receive your race pack, then we'd advise you to contact the organisers direct by emailing info@greatswim.org|.
Visit www.greatswim.org| for a map of the course, training info and much more.
