What is Dress Up and Dance?

Get your school dancing and help to raise money so that Macmillan Cancer support can improve the lives of even more people living with cancer.

Ask your class or even the whole school to wear their favorite dance outfit and bring in a minimum £2 donation.

Your pupils can twirl in a tutu, hip-hop in a hoodie or even just jive in their jeans – it's completely up to them. When you register you will receive a free resource pack with lots of inspiration for you and them!

When is it?

Friday 21 June 2013 is the official Dress Up and Dance day.

Can I take part on another day?

Yes! You can do it anytime. But ideally on 21 June.

What do I need? 

It's easy - register here| and we'll send you a Dress Up and Dance pack with everything you'll need to organise the day in your school.

What will my free Dress Up and Dance pack contain? 

Your free Dress Up and Dance pack will feature PE, PSHE and Science curriculum linked lesson plans suitable for Primary School. It'll contain top tips, ideas and activities for a fun dance event, plus posters to advertise your event and stickers for everyone who takes part.  

You’ll also receive a DVD full of easy to follow dance moves and tips and you'll be able to access extras like parent letters. You'll also receive a paying-in form, which will give you details of how to pay in the fantastic money you raise.

The DVD will have Welsh subtitles and select materials will be available in a Welsh version.

When will I get my Dress Up and Dance pack?

Your FREE Dress Up and Dance pack will be sent to you from April 2013.

However, if you're keen to get started, we have some great fundraising| and educational resources| on our schools website that can help you. You can also visit our be.Macmillan site| and create some fantasic posters and leaflets for your event.

After April, please allow 10 working days for your pack to arrive in the post.  

I haven't received my Dress Up and Dance pack yet?

Resource packs will be sent from April 2013. If you haven't received it by early May, contact us on dressup@macmillan.org.uk| , and we'll send one to you.

How can I order additional materials?

If you have received your event pack and wish to order additional materials, please contact the hotline on 0845 673 0720.

We’ve also produced our Talking About Cancer toolkit| – which you can use with your older pupils as part of your PSHE/PSE/PSD, citizenship or science lessons. You can order this additional pack online here|.

 

Where does the money go?

With more people living with cancer than ever before, the need for our work is constantly growing. The money you raise, no matter how much or how little, will help make a real difference to people living with cancer. Find out more about what we do.|

• £2 could pay for five copies of our Help with the cost of cancer booklet. This features information that could help a person affected by cancer who has money worries.
• £25 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for an hour, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.
• £165 could pay for a Macmillan Grant that would make a significant contribution to the cost of a person’s travel to hospital for treatment.
• £278 could keep a typical Macmillan information and support centre stocked with all the information resources it needs to support people affected by cancer for a month. These resources would include booklets, guides, directories and leaflets.

How do I pay in the money raised?

Your Dress Up and Dance resource pack will include a paying-in form with details of how to pay in the money you've raised.

Will I receive acknowledgement after we pay in?

Yes. On receipt of payment, you'll be sent a thank you letter and a certificate stating how much you have raised.
