Find answers to all the most frequently asked running questions below. You can find further information on the specific event pages. If you still have a question, simply contact us|.
When you join Team Macmillan, you will be supported throughout your entire event experience. In addition to sending you a training and fundraising pack, we're here to help with any queries you may have and are committed to maximising your enjoyment of your big day.
If you get injured while training we recommend that you contact your GP, physio or specialist sports injury clinic. They will be able to advise you if you are fit enough to run. If you do need to withdraw, please let Macmillan and the race organisers know, as you may be able to defer your place (this will depend on the event).
This will depend on which event you are taking part in – some race organisers send these out weeks in advance, while others will let you collect them on the day. We would advise you to visit the race organisers website for further details.
By taking part in your event and raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support you will be making a major difference to the lives of people affected by cancer. In 2009, Team Macmillan runners raised over £3.5 million to provide much-needed cancer services. For more details of how your sponsorship might be spent, please visit our What's it all for| section.
An own place entry is one that you have secured directly through the race organisers. This usually involves paying an entry fee and registering on the events official website or completing an entry form.
Most event entries are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. However, very popular events, such as the London Marathon or Great North Run, operate a ballot system where only a random percentage of entries are accepted. In all cases the race organiser will notify you if your entry has been accepted. If it has, we would love you to join Team Macmillan and raise as much as you can for people affected by cancer. If you've secured your own place and would like to join Team Macmillan, find your running event| now and complete our online application form to join the team.
A Macmillan guaranteed place is an entry that we have purchased directly from the race organisers. We then allocate these places to runners who haven't been able to secure their own place, in return for a pledge to raise a minimum sponsorship level – this varies depending on how much we have paid for the place.
Find a guaranteed place now by selecting one of our upcoming 'top' runs from the left-hand menu.
