A trio of rugby-mad fundraisers are going the extra mile for charity during this year's Six Nations Rugby Championship by running all the way from Cardiff's Millennium Stadium to Twickenham.
The three men from Porthcawl will begin their epic 180 mile journey from the pitch at the Millennium Stadium, kicking rugby balls between the posts to symbolise the start of running the equivalent of seven marathons in seven days - to reach London Welsh just before the start of the Wales v England RBS Six Nations game on Saturday 25 February.
Mike Hnyda, Sean Whare and Darren Powell will be running the 180 miles to the home of London Welsh at Old Deer Park in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, Help for Heroes, Glaze Prostate and The Sandville Self Help Centre outside Porthcawl.
Taylor Wimpey South Wales will be the main sponsor for the event and we thank them for their generosity. Sara Taylor, Sales & Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey South Wales said: 'At Taylor Wimpey we always try to assist the communities in which we build and are delighted to be able to offer our support to the Six Nations Seven Marathons charity event. Seven marathons in seven days is an amazing challenge in aid of some very worthwhile charities and we wish the team the very best of luck.'
Debbie Jones, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in South East Wales said: 'It never ceases to amaze me the lengths our supporters will go to raise money for Macmillan to enable us to help people affected by cancer. Everyone at Macmillan wishes Mike, Sean and Darren the best of luck with their 180 mile endeavour in support of so many good causes'.
Mike, Sean and Darren start their marathon mission on Sunday 19 February when BBC Radio Wales presenter Roy Noble and a Welsh rugby team player will wave the runners off. The finishing line will be London Welsh’s Old Deer Park.
