The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall will today visit a state-of-the-art cancer centre in Powys which has recently benefited from a partnership between Macmillan Cancer Support and The Bracken Trust.
The royal couple are due to meet cancer professionals, supporters and people affected by cancer at The Bracken Trust Cancer Support Centre in Llandrindod Wells. The visit takes place on the day Macmillan presents The Bracken Trust with its prestigious Macmillan Quality Environment Mark| – only the third to be awarded in Wales.
As part of the £1million investment by Macmillan, the charity has built a Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre at the Bracken Trust as well as an extension to the Bracken Trust Cancer Support Centre. The new extension houses new therapy and counselling rooms and a state-of-the-art lymphodoema room.
A Macmillan Cancer Information Coordinator is now also based at the centre. Thanks to the partnership, cancer patients in Powys are able to access information about their illness and treatment as well as get help and support from a team of Macmillan professionals for the first time in their own county.
They can also access holistic therapies such as acupuncture, aromatherapy and Indian head massage at The Bracken Trust.
Cath Lindley, General Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in Wales, said: ‘We are delighted that Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall are visiting the Bracken Trust and the Macmillan Cancer Information Centre and will be able to see the facilities for people affected by cancer in Powys.
'The new services mean that patients and their families can access good quality information and support closer to home without having to travel such long distances.’
