Macmillan Cancer Support has launched a toolkit to help Local Health Boards (LHBs) to deliver personalised care to cancer patients across Wales.
The toolkit shares practical tips and examples from Welsh Macmillan professionals and highlights how Macmillan can support LHBs to provide care that is centred upon cancer patients’ individual needs.
This care goes beyond the clinical to address wider needs such as social, financial, emotional, practical, psychological and spiritual concerns.
The guide, called Providing Person-Centred Care in Wales: A Guide for Local Health Boards, was created following the publication of the Welsh Government’s Cancer Delivery Plan in June 2012.
The delivery plan outlined actions which aim to help cancer patients to receive person-centred care across Wales.
Susan Morris, General Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in Wales, said: 'Receiving a cancer diagnosis is devastating and cancer patients need more than just medical help.'
'We hope this toolkit will support Local Health Boards to put patients at the very core of cancer services and lead to improvements which will enhance cancer patients’ experiences throughout Wales.'
