Our volunteers are at the very heart of Macmillan so our Volunteer Awards are a big deal. This gives us the chance to recognise star volunteers, who make an exceptional contribution to Macmillan and people affected by cancer.
One such school is Alva Academy who was awarded a Douglas Macmillan Volunteer award this year to recognise the school's efforts in raising the profile of Macmillan in their local community in Clackmannanshire.
Every year the head boy and girl at Alva Academy are tasked with organising a World's Biggest Coffee Morning along with other fundraising activities to support Macmillan. They involve all the local community in their quest and really go the extra mile. In 2011 they raised a staggering £12,312. That's enough money to fund nearly all of the grants we offer to people affected by cancer in their area. A fantastic achievement we're sure you'll agree.
