Andrew and Stewart ready for an epic ride.
Andrew and Stewart reflect after completing their epic cycle challenge to raise money for Macmillan...
Well, we've done it. All 977 miles (give or take a few) in eight days, without any punctures and having consumed a lot of calories.
We finished our epic cycle ride from end to end on Sunday at 4.35pm, having left a sunny Land's End the previous Saturday at 4.45pm, therefore completing the trip in eight days.
It was a great adventure during which we saw some beautiful parts of the country. We encountered a lot of rain, and had the wind on our backs to blow us over Dartmoor along with the odd bit of sunshine.
A huge thank you from us both for the super support that people gave us which has enabled us so far to raise £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Our route left Land's End from where we headed to Truro for our first overnight stop. Then onto Exeter following a route along the south coast and using two ferries and then up over Dartmoor. Unfortunately it was raining and very misty, so we didn't actually see any of Dartmoor.
From Exeter we cycled up through Taunton, Bridgewater and over the Avonmouth and Severn Bridges to St Briavels (near Chepstow). Onwards through the Wye Valley to Chester, then up through the north west over the Forest of Bowland to Kendal. From there we followed the motorway cutting off at Lanark.
Scotland didn't disappoint with two days of rain seemingly following us on our way up through Stirling and onwards through Glencoe (beautiful even in the rain), Fort William and to Inverness. Our last day was clear, but into a headwind when we took the direct A9 to John O'Groats.
The training paid off as we completed all the hills that we came across, although one day we found ourselves inexplicably 15 miles short of our overnight stop. This necessitated some hasty re-planning and with new accommodation booked we accepted that we would have to make up the extra 15 miles the next day, making Day 6 a 140 mile slog.

We have also loaded a few photos to our just giving page|.
Finally a big thank you to our respective wives and children for their support not only whilst we were away, but in putting up with our early morning departures for training rides.
