An Easter Ross woman who has volunteered her time to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support for an amazing 37 years has been honoured at a UK-wide awards ceremony. Catherine Skinner was given a Highly Commended accolade in the Volunteer of the Year section of the Third Sector Excellence Awards.
Catherine was surprised to be nominated:
'I have always had the local Easter Ross Macmillan fundraising committee behind me and they are the ones who work really hard. However it was great to get the award and be thanked for my help. I have enjoyed every minute of volunteering for Macmillan and want to continue to do everything I can to help.'
One of Catherine’s greatest achievements was helping to raise £106,000 from a Highland cattle market to help fund the new Macmillan chemotherapy unit in Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.
Macmillan North of Scotland Fundraising Manager David Cameron said:
'Catherine has shown amazing commitment and dedication in giving her time to raise money for Macmillan and helping people affected by cancer in the local community. I hope her achievements will inspire others to get involved so we can reach even more of the people living with cancer in Scotland who need our help.'
