Local woman Arlene Pettinger has completed her 10th marathon for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of her daughter Lisa.
Arlene took part in this year's Deep River Rock Belfast City Marathon at the beginning of May, and has raised £3450 for Macmillan, making a total of more than £43,200 over the years since her first marathon in 2002. Arlene attributes this fantastic success to the very generous people of the town.
Macmillan aims to make a difference in the lives of all those living with cancer and their families. Arlene and her family found themselves needing support from Macmillan when her daughter Lisa was diagnosed with a brain tumour which required treatment, surgery, and lots of travel to and from hospital. Macmillan were able to help with these costs, and provided a nurse when Lisa’s condition became worse. This enabled her to be at home with her family until she died at age 12.
Arlene is delighted that the people of Ballymoney have once again shown such amazing support. She said,
'I would like to thank everyone for their donations and sponsorship, I really appreciate their generosity, kindness, words of encouragement and prayers'. 'I would like to give a special mention to friendship league teams of Glebeside and Loughguile, to Glebeside Rangers football team and to my employer David Smyth friends and colleagues at Glebeside Spar and our customers, they have all been great!'

Maria McGleenon Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support added:
'Arlene has been an absolute pleasure to work with over the years, and the fantastic amount of money she has raised is a lasting tribute to the memory of her daughter, Lisa. I know from working closely with Arlene that her family has been a great support to her with her marathons and all her fundraising and I would like to personally thank them all for their support.'
Macmillan Cancer Support receives no government funding and therefore relies solely on the generosity and support of the people of Northern Ireland to provide its vital services.
