The Blackwell Concert Band hosted a successful evening of music at St Andrew's Church
Saturday 29 October saw a musical extravaganza taking place in Barnt Green in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The concert was held at St Andrew’s Church, hosted by Blackwell Concert Band and also featured Bel Canto singers and Fairfield Folk, and it raised an impressive £1008.45.
Vicky Stock, secretary to the band, was overwhelmed by the generosity of those who came and supported the event. She said: “The concert was originally thought up as a good way of trying to raise funds for this valuable charity which has been so helpful to me since my own diagnosis.
"Thank you to everyone who helped organise the concert, and who came and helped on the day, as well as all those who came along, and of course to the performers who gave up their valuable time for free.”
Vicky is being treated for secondary breast cancer and has recently undergone an operation, and her efforts in organising the concert whilst in hospital were recognised with a big bunch of flowers by the chairman of the concert band.
The bands each performed a half-an-hour slot followed by a finale group numbe - The Village Band - originally performed by The Yetties, and the audience were invited to join in the chorus.
A raffle featuring a large number of varied prizes also helped add to the massive total. The Macmillan fundraising group from Bromsgrove were also present to talk to people and were thrilled with the total raised.
