Julie Haigney and Joanne Vanes proud to be part of Team Macmillan
What a huge achievement for Julie Haigney and her good friend Joanne Vanes! They were among the 3,400 runners participating in the Shakespeare Marath and Half Marathon| in Stratford-upon Avon on Sunday 25 April 2010.
With a 9:30am start, the two athletes’ spurred each other on, with the sun shining down on all of the runners, making this a competitive yet pleasantly atmospheric day.
Runners, joggers, walkers and talkers, all performed their very best to get to the finish line, with Julie and Joanne themselves achieving a respectable time of completing the half marathon in under two hours.
'I feel so relieved and proud,' Julie Haigney said. 'It was warm on Sunday which proved more challenging, but we kept each other going to the finish line.'
Julie Haigney is a Sales Negotiator for the Redditch office of estate agents Allan Morris & Burford| and Joanne Vanes is a Sales Manager in Alcester. Together they have pushed one another on, and in turn have raised money for an excellent cause, one which touches many peoples’ hearts. The Allan Morris| estate agents, Worcestershire decided that they would have Macmillan Cancer Support as their charity of choice.
'We are a large organisation with nine offices throughout Worcestershire plus our Mayfair branch in London, and we were happy to sponsor such a worthy cause that is important to so many people,' explains Mary Burford, Director of Allan Morris|, Worcestershire. 'It is good to give something back to the community.'
The two runners have indicated that they will be training for the London Marathon in 2011, but until then... put your feet up!
Julie and Joanne have raised between them £1830, which will a long way to assist Macmillan Cancer Support.
