Harji Withers Walkers
A group of local family, friends and neighbours recently joined together to walk 40 miles around the canal paths of Worcester. Mrs Withers from Blackpole in Worcester organised a charity walk to celebrate her 40th birthday. The event was in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and has raised a donation of £1,400 for the charity.
The walkers carried a collection bucket along the route and many clients of Samrai Accountancy, the family owned company sponsored Mrs Withers to take on the challenge last month.
The distance was completed in a relay style along the River Severn passing Diglis Lock and around the Pitchcroft area. The event finished with a party at the Blackpole Inn.
Mrs Withers said: ‘I chose to support Macmillan because cancer affects us all. Sadly, when I was a child we lost my Brother Gurkamal at a young age to stomach cancer. My Mother in Law is also a cancer survivor. I wanted my walk to not only celebrate my special birthday but to be in memory of my late Brother and for my Mother in Law, Margaret.’
Georgina Forrest, Macmillan Fundraising Manager said: ‘We are delighted to receive this wonderful donation which will help fund emotional, medical, practical and financial support to people affected by cancer.’
