Sarah, Ann, Pru enjoying the Whitby Walk
If you were in Whitby on Saturday 12 May, you may have spotted lots of people in Macmillan t-shirts walking along the coastline. This was the first time Macmillan have organised the 13 mile Whitby Walk event and it proved to be a great success. Over 140 people took part to help to raise money for people affected by cancer.
Sally Millington, fundraising manager for Macmillan says: 'We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who was involved with the walk. We couldn’t have asked for better weather on the day. The atmosphere was fantastic and people seemed to really enjoy the event. We would also like to say thank you to the Whitby Endeavour Rotary, their expertise has been wonderful. We also had some fantastic volunteers, we really do appreciate their time and support.'
'The sponsorship is being paid in, so the amount raised from the event is not yet known, but judging by the number of people taking part it looks set to raise well over £10,000 which really will make such a big difference to people going through the toughest time of their lives.'
Ann Turner was one of the walkers, she said: 'It was a great day – a lovely scenic route and beautiful weather, what more could we ask for? There was a real sense of occasion for all us taking part in Macmillan’s first Whitby Walk and everyone enjoyed being outside and active to fundraise for Macmillan. And I certainly enjoyed my fish and chips at the end too.'
