Zoe Slagle, Trainee Solictor at DLA Piper Leeds with the beginnings of their coin collection
Every year fundraisers across the country run, walk and swim a mile for Macmillan. But as something a little bit different, DLA Piper in Leeds have decided to try to build a mile long line of copper coins!
It will take approximately 62,000 two pence pieces (and even more 1 pence pieces) to build their mile, so they've asked all staff to dig down the back of their sofas, look in their cars and the back of their desk draws to collect as much as they possibly can.
They are running the fundraiser all year and if successful they'll have raised enough money to pay for a Macmillan nurse for two weeks.
This is just one of the many activities the staff at DLA Piper have organised during 2013 to raise money for their Charity of the Year- Macmillan Cancer Support. They will also be climbing mountains, running marathons, playing golf and baking and eating lots of cake for their World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in September.
Clara White, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in Leeds says, 'It's so great to have the support of DLA Piper this year and I think this is such a great idea! Everyone has so many spare coppers in jars at home that they don’t know what to do so this is the perfect solution!'
