Backup Technology staff have completed a drive from Leeds to John O’Groats, Scotland with cars worth no more than £500 in order to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. This first big team building project is set to continue every year, to help staff get to know each other better and work towards a charitable cause.
This year teams were able to score points by stopping at destinations such as the Angel of the North, Edinburgh Castle and Loch Ness. Points were awarded for the greenest cheap car, the most stylish cheap car, and capturing a picture of Nessie.
The final challenge is to sell all of the cars with all proceeds going to Macmillan; so far 2 of the 4 cars have been sold, and with donations still coming in, the total raised so far is £1500.
One of the company founder Richard Fiddes said 'We are keen supporters of local and national charities, and it's been great to combine a team building event with raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, we chose Macmillan as the condition has affected many relatives and friends of our staff. We can't thank those who have donated and supported us enough - it has been a fantastic result.'
