Holmfirth Committee recently celebrated their 50th anniversary of fundraising for Macmillan.
Celebrating over a delicious meal held at Meltham Golf Club, the party included members of the committee from past and present and supporters who have helped the group throughout the years. Macmillan representatives included the Committee President Lady Halifax, Maureen Rutter Macmillan’s Director for direct services, and West Yorkshire Fundraising Managers Charlotte Stern and Maria Amos.
During their past 50 years the Holmfirth committee have raised well over one million pounds to support people affected by cancer. They have established the highly successful Holmfirth Art week, stood for thousands of hours at supermarket collections and charity markets, got involved with hundreds of Macmillan events (including the Macmillan Mile, the Great North Run, abseiling down local reservoir dams, ziplines, and countless coffee mornings...
They have supported Macmillan’s campaigns through the years, from appeals for equipment, to the first Macmillan nurse appeals in the 1970s right up to our modern day campaigns to freeze out fuel poverty and give car park charges the boot.
The Holmfirth committee is a truly exceptional group and without dedicated individuals coming together giving their time, effort and money, Macmillan would struggle to fund all the much needed services in the area.
Congratulations and Happy Anniversary Homlfirth!
