Sainsburys staff with store manager Steve Twomey
In June 2009 Sainsburys in Acocks Green nominated Macmillan as their local charity of the year and have exceeded their own goals with their achievements.
Each year, the supermarket chooses one organisation as a part of the national 'Help a Local Charity' initiative. Customers vote for the local charity of their choice by completing a form in-store and Macmillan Cancer Support were fortunate enough to receive the most votes last June.
Throughout the last 12 months, Sainsburys have organised a number of events to raise money. A 'Go Green' day saw all the staff in Macmillan t-shirts and bright green wigs while later in the year Sainsburys hosted a bric-a-brac sale.
Big hearted Sainsburys customers were also key in meeting the fundraising target a they donated generously to numerous tin-shakes at the store which raised an impressive £1138.20.
Macmillan would like to thank Sainsburys staff and customers for raising a grand total of £3090.18 over the past year, which will go a very long way to supporting those touched by cancer up and down the country.
