Lisa Hall raised an amazing £602.90!
Last month saw the third Birmingham Mail Fun Run take to the streets of Birmingham for Macmillan Cancer Support. 1200 runners wearing bright green Macmillan t-shirts created a sea of green to help those affected by cancer.
In 2009 the event raised over £70,000 and the Birmingham and Black Country Fundraising Team for Macmillan are encouraging those who took part to please send their sponsorship money in as soon as they can.
A prize was up for grabs after the event for the participant who sent the most sponsorship money in by 1 June. This year's winner was Lisa Hall, of Anthony Stuart Hair Studio on the Coventry Road who raised a fantastic £602.90!
This was Lisa's second year taking part in the event and not only did she take part for a second year running but she also won the 'most sponsorship-raised' prize for the second year in a row.
Lisa along with 3 friends will now enjoy a 3 course meal at Birmingham's new Punjabi restaurant Pushkar on Broad Street.
'I can't believe I’ve managed to win the highest sponsorship raised 2 years in a row. I took part with my manager and owner of the salon Anthony. Between us, we have raised £1215 this year, but luckily, I managed to get my sponsorship money in before him and before the deadline so I bagged the prize. I lost my mother Sandra to Stomach cancer 3 years ago on May 8. Therefore, with the fun run being at the beginning of May, it has been the perfect tribute to her 2 years in a row.
'As a salon, we are a great supporter of cancer charities as we have many clients who are going through treatment at the moment. We even took part in the event with one of our regulars, Janine.'
This year Macmillan Cancer Support hopes to raise enough money to bring the total to over a quarter of a million pounds in total over the 3 year period. Therefore, if you have any sponsorship money still to send in please do so as it is never too late.
The address to forward any donations is Macmillan Cancer Support, 2nd Floor, Delta View, Coventry Road, Sheldon, Birmingham B26 3PG. For more information on Macmillan locally call the team on 0121 742 6393.
