The Blackwell Concert Band have chosen Macmillan as their charity of the year
The Blackwell Concert Band have raised a fantastic £233.78 for Macmillan Cancer Support after taking part in the annual Bromsgrove Carnival.
They chose Macmillan as their charity of the year following the band’s secretary, Vicky Stock, treatment for breast cancer. Indeed, there will be a further three fundraising events during this centenary year.
The parade kicked off at 12 noon, with a torrential downpour, but eventually the sun came out and the band played some rousing tunes such as the Muppet Show and The Stripper. Later in the park the band had a stall with tombola; the fantastic prizes included a brand new Manchester United replica shirt.
The band thoroughly enjoyed themselves and hope to take part again next year. They are also set to attend Wizzafest in July, which is a weekend festival held near Bromsgrove in aid of Macmillan. At the festival, the band will be playing on the same bill as stars such as Faye Tozer of Steps fame.
Later on in the year, the band is once again raising money for the charity through a concert at St Andrews church in Barnt Green on 29 October, and at the Santa Special event at Severn Valley Railway on 17 December.
We would like to offer our warmest thanks to Vicky and the Blackwell Concert Band for their generous support, which will go such a long way towards helping people affected by cancer.
