Set up a tribute giving site in memory of a loved one and to raise money for Macmillan
Supporters of Macmillan Cancer Support can now donate to the charity in a novel way via a Macmillan tribute giving site.
The site allows people to create a memorial page where donations can be made in memory of loved ones who have been affected by cancer. Pictures and messages can also be posted to the individual site.
Karen Shortt, Fundraising Manager for Warwickshire said: "The fundraising tribute page offers supporters an opportunity to create a lasting legacy by sharing special memories of loved ones, while raising vital funds for Macmillan."
One Warwickshire supporter who has done just that is Gary Lane from Rugby. Gary and his brother Tom sadly lost their mum Annette Lane to cancer on the 19 January 2009. In memory of Annette the brothers set up a memorial golf event, with the help of family and friends, raising more than £3,400 in 2011, its first year.
To complement this year's event Gary has set up a tribute page in memory of Annette and money raised from this page will go towards the 2012 total, with the memorial event set for its second year.
Gary said: "We want to carry on our mum's legacy and raise as much money as possible so that Macmillan can continue to do its amazing work which we know first hand can do amazing things.
"We ask that you write a message or donate as much or as little as you can, as we really believe in this and hopefully we can make a difference for someone in the future."
