One in three of us will get cancer. Finding out that you or someone you love has the disease can leave you feeling shocked, upset and isolated. It may be you need answers, reassurance or simply help with the things that matter to you.
That’s why we’re building the Sussex Macmillan Cancer Support Centre. So people affected by cancer get the information and support they need, at the time when they need it most. With your help we can make sure that they don’t have to go through it alone.
Design by experts and people affected by cancer...
We are aiming to develop the very best cancer support services, based at the centre and reaching out to people affected by cancer across Sussex.
Geoff Brown, Project Implementation Manager, Macmillan
Every year more than 7,500 people in Sussex find out they have cancer. Many are left with little or no information or support at the time when they most need it.
The Sussex Macmillan Cancer Support Centre will be designed by experts with input from people affected by cancer. It will be the first of its kind in the county to offer all round support for people affected by cancer in a calm, friendly and welcoming environment.
People affected by cancer, their families and friends will be able to visit at any stage of their cancer journey, plus the centre will be a base for outreach services across Sussex. It will offer:
cancer advice and information you can trust
support from our health and social care professionals
help with money worries from welfare benefits experts
practical support to help you get on with life – such as complementary therapies, a hair and wig salon, a refreshment lounge and dietary advice
a chat with someone who understands including a counselling service and self help and support groups.
The Sussex Macmillan Cancer Support Centre is a partnership between Macmillan Cancer Support, Sussex Cancer Fund and Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Share your experiences
