Members – Peter, Jean and Patricia with their awards
Three members of the committee were presented with Long Service Awards - Peter Cobham received the Gold award, Patricia Jones and Jean Brocklesby received their Bronze awards.
Blanche Barlow, a Weybridge resident, joined the Walton and Weybridge committee over 50 years ago and was chairman for more than 40 years. Blanche worked tirelessly to raise awareness of the charity before her sudden death in 2012. The committee continues her work as a mark of respect for their former chairman.
Last year they raised £22,535 through collections, donations and special events such as a Carol Concert in December at the United Reformed Church in Weybridge. The funds raised go towards supporting the various Macmillan services provided in the Surrey area such as the recently launched Macmillan Family Support team working in association with Jigsaw South East. Operating across Surrey, the Macmillan Family Support team provide a pre-bereavement service to children and young people who have a significant family member with a life limiting condition.
Helene Poursain, Surrey Fundraising Manager said, 'I was honoured to present the awards to the members of the Walton & Weybridge committee, who dedicate their time and support to raising money for others less fortunate than themselves. The time and effort that they give to Macmillan is fantastic and I am so grateful for their support. With 98% of Macmillan’s money coming from voluntary donations, the amazing fundraising total that they achieve at the end of the year is really put to good use.'
