Vicky with 'Madge' the Car at last year's event
Vicki Holiday and Barbara Morris will be revving into gear to take on The Cape to Cape Tour for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Barbara and Vicky will be leaving on 22 April 2010. With Barbara driving and Vicki navigating, they will drive to Cornwall for the start at Cape Cornwall, and then make their way back to Plymouth for the boat to Santander. Then it’s a roundabout route to Cape Finisterre, in Spain.
When it is all over, some 1,200 miles later, they plan to drive back overland, for a ferry back to ‘Blighty’ on 7 May 2010. They will be driving this epic journey with Barbara’s car ‘Madge’ a 1953 Singer Roadster along with the 39 other cars in the competition.
The Tour is not a competitive event; its sole purpose is to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, whilst at the same time enjoying driving classic cars along well planned routes in the company of great, like minded drivers.
Vicky and Barbara are looking forward to taking on this huge challenge for Macmillan. Having competed last year in the tour they both know the challenges that await them, such as packing for such an epic journey! Vicky said:
'Some girly information, our luggage for the two weeks is less than two cubit feet each and that in itself is a challenge'
Vicky and Barbara have had some support from local businesses. They will be leaving on Thursday 22 April from Bensons Hairdressers. Bensons are helping the team out by recording the mileage the ladies cover and asking their customers to guess how many miles the ladies will travel on the different sectors.
The Fox & Hounds pub at Tilburstow Hill near Godstone have also been very supportive. The Landlord Gary and Landlady Ellie arranged a raffle to help support the event.
The Surrey Fundraising Office wishes Vicky and Barbara the best of luck!
