The 1st Capel St Mary Scout Group
We'd like to extend a huge Macmillan thank you to the 1st Capel St Mary Scout Group for stepping in to help us organise a collection that raised over £160 to support people affected by cancer.
The 1st Capel St Mary Scout Group are a Beaver, Cub, Scout & Explorer Group in the village of Capel St Mary. The Group provides its young people with a fantastic programme of activities which over the last few years has included camping, hiking, climbing, gliding, scuba diving, canoeing, first aid, charity work, photography, sport, cooking and many others.
The group recently added volunteering to this list by helping with a collection for Macmillan at local business, Bypass Nurseries. Fundraising manager for East Suffolk and Waveney Holly Lambert said ‘Bypass Nurseries offered us the opportunity to collect at their store over a weekend but unfortunately we didn’t have enough volunteers in the area to cover the day. I got in touch with Rachel Owen, Scout leader for the group and she kindly said the scouts would be happy to help’.
The scouts raised £166.43 from their collection and all really enjoyed the day. Thanks to their efforts, the money they raised could pay for a Macmillan benefits adviser for a day. In this time, they would advise people with cancer, their families and carers so they can access benefits and other kinds of financial support they are entitled to.
The group will also be taking part in World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 30th September, 9 am until midday at the Capel St Mary Scout Group Hut. If you’d like to go along or you’re interested in joining the scout group, please call Rachel Owen on 01473 310454.
Macmillan need more volunteers in Ipswich and surrounding areas to help with collections, attending cheque presentations, giving talks on Macmillan (training will be provided) and helping at local events. Any amount of time you can give is valuable so if you think you might be able to help, please give Fundraising Manager Holly Lambert a call on 01603 724 366 or email hlambert@macmillan.org.uk
