The Golden Cup and Yoxall community present a cheque to Macmillan
The Golden Cup Inn hosted a Royal Wedding Garden Party on 29th April 2011 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The day was a great family event with games and activities for all ages - stalls, raffles, donkey rides, a dog show, WI cake decorating, face painting, football and of course various TV screens showing the big event. The local community of Yoxall were involved and there was a great sense of community spirit.
Rachael Turner, owner of the Golden Cup Inn said: 'We would like to thank everyone who came and supported the event and all those who contributed their time, effort and donations in order to make the event so successful. This includes the Church, Parish Council, Scouts and all the other organisations and individuals who assisted in so many ways.'
Reverend Maldwyn Hawksworth, parish priest for St. Peters in Yoxal said: 'On the day there was a fantastic sense of community spirit and people attended from Yoxall and further afield.'
The Royal Wedding Garden Party raised a total of £1865 which was donated to the Staffordshire branch of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The cheque was presented to Janos Toth, Area Fundraising Manager for Staffordshire and Shropshire, who said: 'Currently there are around 2 million people living with cancer in the UK. By 2030, this figure will have increased to 4 million, and so it’s vital that we raise more money, so that we can reach and improve the lives of everyone affected by cancer. Macmillan Cancer Support provides medical, emotional, financial and practical support to people affected by cancer, their friends and families. However, we’re currently only reaching one in three of those people and we want to reach everyone.'
'97% of Macmillan’s income comes from voluntary sources - individuals, groups, companies, schools, trusts and the general public - so every penny really does count. The amount of money raised by the community of Yoxall is fantastic and Macmillan Cancer Support would like to thank everyone involved with the Yoxall Royal Wedding Garden Party for helping people affected by cancer”.
