College students presenting the cheque to Macmillan
Travel and Tourism students at Burton and South Derbyshire College have raised a fantastic £345.52 by organising a range of events at the college.
Students worked together to organise a raffle, cake sale, and tombola, as well as raising funds through games of guess the name of the teddy and guess the number of sweets in the jar. The events and games were organised as part of the Employability Skills unit of the students' course. Lecturer Jayne Butler said that 'Taking part in charity events helps to equip our students with the skills and knowledge to be able to make a valuable contribution to the wider community.'
Beverley Smith, Fundraising Manager for Staffordshire, was delighted to receive the donation on behalf of Macmillan. Beverley visited the college in May to receive a cheque from the students and to thank them for all their hard work. Lecturer Jayne Butler said that Macmillan 'improves the lives of people affected by cancer by providing practical, medical and financial support, so it's fantastic that we have managed to raise £345.52 that will help them in their endeavours.'
