The school have dedicated some fundraising in memory of Denise Honey who sadly died from cancer on Monday 13 February 2012.
Denise was known to all at Sir Thomas Wharton Community College as the manager of the Study Centre for five years. She approached her job with enthusiasm and dedication, ensuring that lessons were delivered effectively and efficiently to students when teachers were absent. Denise was committed to planning her work and the work of her staff to the highest standards.
The fundraising activities took part throughout the week from Monday 26 – Friday 30 March 2012.
Headteacher, Mary McCorry, commented: 'Denise was a highly valued and much loved member of our school community. I feel that this Memorial Week in school, with students and staff working so hard to raise money for her chosen charities, has been a fitting tribute to Denise. I know she would also have appreciated the fun students have had on non uniform day and smiled at all of the cakes the staff have eaten this week at the many tea parties which have been held.'
Local fundraising manager, Amy Hebdon commented: 'This is a wonderful amount to raise. I’d like to thank everyone who helped organise the fundraising and to all who took part. This money could help fund a Macmillan Nurse for just over a week, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.'
