It’s a sport that conjures up memories of school days past, but the game of Rounders is currently going through a resurgence in popularity – and Macmillan is looking for teams to ‘pitch’ themselves against one another in a charity rounder’s tournament.
Rounders in the Park will take place at Millhouses Park, Sheffield on Sunday 28 June from 1pm - 4pm. The charity is looking for teams of eight to sign up to the competition – there will also be afternoon tea and a raffle – with all proceeds going to support local people affected by cancer.
A Rounders England player will also be attending to provide tips and tactics as teams compete to lift the trophy and be crowned champions!
Rob Turner, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan said, “Rounders in the Park is going to be a fun, family friendly day with a dose of friendly rivalry thrown in!”
He continues, “To take part each player pays ten pounds which means for every team that gets involved we can fund a Macmillan Nurse for three hours. Macmillan relies on donations for 98% of its income, which is why getting local businesses and people involved in events like this is so valuable.”
Rounders in the Park is sponsored by G & M Plastering Services, South Yorkshire Welding Supplies and Sapphire Hardware – and is being organised in association with Rounders England.
Michele Golland from Rounders England added, “Rounders is easy to play and people from all walks of life can enjoy the sport together regardless of experience, fitness and ability. We hope to have a fun day whilst helping to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and to encourage people to take part in the game of Rounders.”
