our brand new racing Coracles. People in Picture- Rachel Cooper (Shropshire Manager), Richard Bayliss (chair of the Coracle Committee).
Following a break in 2011, the Macmillan World Championship Coracle Race is back with a vengeance.
The race takes place on Friday 15 June at the Pengwern Boat Club, Shrewsbury.
Teams are already lining up to take part, but we still have some places left!
On the day, teams of four will compete in a relay race across the River Severn. The team that runs the four laps in the fastet time will be declared the winner and win a prize.
Not only will there be a prize for the fastest team, but also for the best fancy dress team.
We have six brand new fiberglass Coracles for the event as well as fantastic entertainment lined up.
There will be circus, stilt walking and hula workshops, and balloon animals for the children.
Refreshments on the day include a Pimms stand, a hog roast, an ice cream van and more.
To register a team please contact Rachel Cooper on 07779288070, or you can download an entry form from www.maccoracle.org.uk|.
Entry is £100 and it is hoped that teams will go on to raise lots more money through donations.
‘The Coracle Race has raised more than £100,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support over the last few years,’ said Rachel Cooper, Macmillan’s Shropshire Fundraising Manager. ‘It’s such a great event and teams and spectators have a fantastic day. So I would encourage local businesses and groups to put a team in, and then bring along as many people as possible to support them on the day’.
The event is free to spectators, so why not bring down the family and friends to sample the refreshments, take part in the workshops, and watch the racing.
