Daniella celebrated her ninth birthday, in April 2012 in Paris with her family. Chatting with her Grandfather, Jeff, whilst waiting to go out for dinner, Jeff was shared how nine years ago, on the very day that Daniella was born, he had run the 'London Marathon'. Daniella looked forward to the time when she would be old enough to do something similar and Jeff suggested there was no time like the present, so he thought they could do the 'Robin Hood Fun Run' in Nottingham later in the year. Daniella was very excited by the thought of this.
The decision to run for Macmillan was easy for them. Jeff had lost his Mother to cancer many years ago and Daniella had recently lost her Grandma also to cancer.
After several options of appropriate attire had been discussed and considered, Jeff and Daniella decided that 'Little Red Riding Hood' and 'The Big Bad Wolf' would make the perfect costumes.
On the day of the event, Daniella completed the fun in 14 minutes and 9 seconds crossing the Finishing Line in 267th position ahead of 992 other competitors including Jeff. What was even more interesting was that 267 was also Daniella’s race number.
Daniella said 'Once I crossed the starting line I was determined to finish!'
Jeff remains proud of his Granddaughter’s enthusiasm and achievements and is keen they continue their fundraising together. He said 'We are already planning next year’s event, running, hopefully with other members of the family as The Smurfs.'
See if you can spot them in 2013. Who will you be running as?
