Fernwood Bike Club organised a Charity Fun Day and raised an amazing £1600 which was divided equally between Macmillan Cancer Support and Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance.
The fun took place on 5 June and was centred around Fernwood Village Hall. There was a climbing wall, bouncy castle, raffle, water and wine stall, face painting and much much more! The weather was beautiful, helping a record turn out on the day.
Organiser Kelly Primmett said: 'The reason that we chose both charities is as bikers the air ambulance provides a vital service that one day we may need, and the reason that we chose Macmillan is because in one way or another every single club member has been affected by cancer directly or indirectly, whether it be themselves, or a member of their family or friends. Macmillan is one of the few non -specific cancer charities that any one of us could call on for help, advice or support, no matter what type of cancer it was that we were dealing with. Macmillan is vital to us in our community.'
Lizzie Edgerton, Fundraising Manager for Nottinghamshire, went along to meet the bikers and collect a cheque for £800 at their monthly meeting at the end of June. ‘The club members are fantastic, they put so much effort into making the day a success and their enthusiasm and commitment to Macmillan is wonderful’ she said. ‘If it wasn’t for people like Kelly and the group raising money for us we wouldn’t be able to provide all the services we offer. We’re so grateful to them for this fabulous amount and – even better – they’ve offered to do the event again for us next year!’.
