A local artist is donating the elephant to be named in a special competition as part of the event
For seven weeks over the course of summer 2012, 3D safari themed animal sculptures designed and created by regional and local professional artists, community groups and schools will be on display.
Safari Northampton is a major public art exhibition which is taking place between June and September, and local residents and visitors will be encouraged to go on a journey around Northampton to view the sculptures and the surrounding areas.
The event is delivered in partnership with Wild in Art and aims to bring together the business and creative sectors with the local communities to celebrate both the character of the town and its cultural identity.
Safari Northampton will enable significant fundraising opportunities with each sculpture being sold at a charity auction following the exhibition.
Proceeds will be donated to a number of charities including for appeal to raise £1.55million for a new Macmillan haematology unit at Northampton General Hospital.
On Saturday 23 June 2012 the trail begins after which time visitors will be able to view local artist, Claire Pound's artwork (pictured) as well as entering a competition to name the elephant.
