A local York woman who organised a food based fundraising event in March has raised £1,300 for Macmillan.
Rebecca Boldry of Stockton on the Forest in York, held a beef and beer night at the Monk Bar Hotel to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The event was held in memory of her partner, Trevor Green, who was diagnosed with stomach cancer at the beginning of May last year, and sadly died just two weeks later.
'I was so upset at losing the man I loved,' says Rebecca, 'but there was all the added stress and worry, of sorting everything out including all of his finances. I didn’t know who to turn to or where to find the information that I needed. That’s where Macmillan made such a difference to me. I was booked on an appointment with one of Macmillan’s Financial Guides. They explained things logically and clearly, and guided me through all the paperwork. There were times when I would be so upset and crying on the phone, but the Macmillan team were always so patient, and calmed me down and helped me through. I didn’t know that Macmillan could help me. I thought they were only for people who were directly affected by cancer.'
The beef and beer night was a tribute to Trevor who had been a chef in York, and it was an outstanding success: 'I’m over the moon with how much we raised, and it was such a wonderful way to remember Trevor. He loved to have people round to entertain and cook for them, and I know he would have been as thrilled as me with how well the night went. I’d like to thank everyone who helped to make the event a huge success, and especially to Graham at the Monk Bar Hotel who has been such a help to me.
It’s reassuring to know that this money will mean that Macmillan can help other people who might need their support like I did. I used their services, and it’s wonderful to give something back as a way of thanks.'
