Jon and Ryan far right with their team mates
Jon Millward, 43, and his son Ryan, 11 from Burscough geared up last weekend for a marathon coast to coast cycle challenge raising over £1,800 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Jon and Ryan set off from Morecambe Bay and cycled to Bridlington all with the intention to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Jon, a contracts manager for a house building firm, and keen footballer Ryan have so far raised more than £1800 for the charity –They did the cycle with friend Paul Hargraves and his son Sam, also 11, who are raising money for Alder Hey Imagine appeal. Both boys attend Burscough Science College in Year 7.
The four have been training on Sundays, regularly cycling 40 or 50 miles to prepare for the gruelling four-day cross country trip.
The adventure was a family affair, with wives Sue and Debbie and their other children who travelled the route in a support vehicle with first aid and repair kits, refreshments and moral support, meeting up for overnight stops in Settle, Ripon and Pocklington before the 42-mile final leg to Bridlington.
The amount that Jon and Ryan raised could pay for a Macmillan nurse for over 2 weeks, helping people with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support.
