Back to base...at last!
The Market Harborough Group Macmillan Cycle Rides 2013 were once again a great success.
Nearly 100 cyclists, of all ages and abilities, turned out on Saturday 11 May to take part in the Market Harborough Group’s superbly organised Harborough 100 rides. Provided with a choice of a 5km Family Ride, a 30km off-road route, with a couple of demanding hill climbs, and a punishing 100 km Road ride, cyclists challenged themselves, and paid us for the privilege!
Despite the chilly wind, rain showers held off until nearly the end of the day, accentuating the enjoyment for all participants and their supporters. Live entertainment was generously provided by Griffo of Loughborough, who kept our feet tapping and spirits up throughout the afternoon and created a party atmosphere which was enjoyed by cyclists and supporters alike. Much needed refreshments were available to the cyclists to stoke-up before they left, and to replenish their calories at the end, including homemade cakes, hot and cold drinks and a barbeque.
The event went off without a hitch, thanks to the hard work and commitment of the organisers, group members, helpers and volunteers who had all contributed so much to the preparation and running of the day. A special thanks to Alistair Chapman for organising the routes and supporting us and also to the Mount family, at the farm, for the use of the fantastic facilities, which made holding the event so much easier.
Riders, and their supporters, from all over the county, and beyond, including Loughborough, Mountsorrel, Hinckley, Melton, Desborough and many villages around the Harborough area provided us with appreciative and positive feedback, making all the hard work well worth the effort. Pete, from Desborough, enjoyed it so much, he “would like to do the route again” himself!
An added bonus? The funds raised. We have yet to receive all sponsorship monies, but are set to reach in excess of £3500, for which we would like to say a huge thank you to all concerned!
Thanks to Maz, who made this comment in a follow-up email, 'Good luck with your future fundraising. You all do a great job!'
