We'd like to congratulate Wayne Singleton who took on a personal challenge to run the 27th Sultan Marathon Des Sables, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Like most of his fellow competitors, when Wayne Singleton told his friends he was going to run the 27th Sultan Marathon Des Sables, they all said: 'You’re completely bonkers. That was to begin with, but actually they were envious and probably wanted to do it themselves.'
As well as this race, Wayne runs and walks to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, spurred by the loss of his grandmother a little over a year ago. He said: 'It's a personal challenge but it's also important to be running for others.'
The sporting side is clearly not his main objective, and he’d be happy to receive a finisher’s medal. He said: 'In any case from a sporting point of view. It’s a lot harder than I thought it would be, but that doesn’t stop you enjoying the wonderful landscapes. I keep my camera in the pocket of my shorts. There’s a fantastic spirit here, too, and a wonderful sense of solidarity between the runners.
