Mayors Challenge in East Lancashire

Mayors and dignitaries in East Lancashire are supporting Macmillan Cancer Support with their annual flagship event The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning by trying to attend as many coffee mornings as they can in their local areas

Last year the Mayor of Hyndburn broke the record for most events attended by a Mayor in a single day by managing to get to 28 different coffee morning on the day, Macmillan fundraising Manager Sebastian Farrell said: ‘Last year we broke the record with one Mayor and it was a long and surprisingly difficult but ultimately rewarding day. This year I’d like to give all the Mayors of East Lancashire a taste of what we did, to meet the amazing people who take part in this event every year and enjoy some cake and coffee along the way.’

In order to help your Mayor why not register to host your own coffee morning, it’s so simple, just text COFFEE to 88080 or go to www.macmillan.org.uk/coffee|. We’ll be seeing how many people register across East Lancashire and which area had most registrations and raised the most money. Will it be Burnley or Blackburn, or perhaps somewhere else entirely. The event is being supported by 2BR and The Bee radio stations and it is very easy to host, as Sebastian said: ‘Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning is our biggest event of the year but it is exactly NOT what it says on the tin, it doesn’t have to be Big, it doesn’t have to be Coffee it doesn’t even have to be in the Morning. As long as you are arranging an event, inviting people to attend and raising money for Macmillan that’s all that matters, last year we had people doing quizzes in local pubs, cocktail evening even one or two live music events. We’re hoping this year will be bigger and better than ever.’
