Plans are underway for an epic Race Night fundraiser in aid of Macmillan, which is being organised by Cardy Construction in Canterbury.
The team of three have signed up for The Wall Run, an Ultra Marathon event from 22 – 23 June 2013, which will see those taking part running 69 miles across Hadrian’s Wall from Carlisle Castle to the Gateshead Millennium Bridge. The route is of mixed-terrain incorporating both on and off-road sections and completing it will be a real test of endurance and mental strength.
Training is already underway to get in shape for the gruelling challenge and the London Marathon in April will serve as a good warm up. By committing to the marathon and ultra marathon in the space of 3 months, the team have set themselves an ambitious fundraising target of £10,000.
Chris Gremo of Cardy Construction, who will be taking in the challenge alongside colleagues Michael Stannard and Michael Peppiatt, had this to say:
'Unfortunately, we have some very close colleagues and friends who have been diagnosed with cancer over the last 18 months in particular. We have seen how it does not just affect one individual but also has such a huge impact on the lives of loved ones.
'The work of Macmillan is so vital as a support network that we wanted to do something a little different to raise awareness. That is when I came up with the idea of tackling an Ultra Marathon!'
In order to reach their £10,000 target, Cardy Construction will be putting on a number of fundraising events, the first of these being a Race Night for around 130 people which is scheduled to take place at the Kent County Cricket Club in Canterbury towards the end of March.
Over the years, staff from Cardy Construction, located at Maynard Road, Canterbury, have engaged in a number of fundraising challenges for Macmillan, such as the London and New York Marathons and since 2011 have raised over £12,000.
