Paul and Dan with the prizes
A local fundraiser has sourced some amazing prizes for his upcoming raffle.
A local man who is running 71 miles over night from Brighton to Hythe for charity has cleverly sourced a selection of sports memorabilia to help raise funds for people affected by cancer. Paul Egan who works at the Golf Club of the Hythe Mercure Imperial Hotel will host a raffle for the memorabilia following his run with colleague Dan on 10th-11th June.
The collection includes signed shirts from Liverpool FC, Newcastle FC and Wolverhampton FC, obtained with the help of Middlesborough FC Striker Leroy Lita. Golfer Retief Goosen has also donated a shirt he wore during the recent South Africa Open in which he was a runner up. If you are a keen golfer this is a fantastic opportunity to win some unique sports memorabilia in the lead up to this year’s British Golfing Tournaments.
The tickets are being sold for £2 per strip and can be purchased from the Golf Club at the Hythe Mercure Imperial Hotel. Funds raised from this will help Paul and Dan reach their fundraising target of £5,000 which will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support. This amount would pay for up to 5 palliative nurses for a week, helping support terminally ill people and their families.
Paul is grateful for the support he has received so far: 'We are pleased with the response we have received from people with our efforts to raise money. The Just Giving page we set up has been a really important part of that as it has given people a quick and easy way to donate money towards our fundraising event.'
The local press are encouraged to attend Paul and Dan’s final destination in Hythe for interviews and pictures of the moment they cross the finish line between 11am-1pm on 11th June. A barbeque and the announcement of winners of the sports memorabilia will take place following their arrival. The Mayor of Hythe will also be in attendance to show his sport support.
Sainsbury’s in Folkestone have kindly offered their support to Paul and Dan by supplying all of the water required throughout their overnight journey.
