MHS Commercial charity fishing day
A fantastic £1000 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support at a charity fishing event organised by MHS Commercial, part of the MHS Homes group.
Twenty-seven anglers took part in the day which was held at Bax Farm Fishery, Teynham on Friday 1 July. This was the first fishing event to be organised by MHS Commercial and forms part of the MHS Homes Group annual fundraising activities for Macmillan Cancer Support, the staff-chosen charity for 2011.
Adam Spokes, Assistant Contracts Manager for MHS Commercial, organised the day. He said: 'With temperatures hitting the mid twenties, the only thing that the majority of anglers (including myself) caught was the sun.
'The winning catch was a 8.8lb common carp which was landed by Keith Greenfield, Responsive Repairs Supervisor for MHS Commercial but only 2 ounces separated first from third place. We held a raffle and an auction with many of our prizes being donated by our suppliers and business contacts, we were also very fortunate that Bax Farm helped us host the day and donated prizes. The day was so successful we are looking forward to making it a regular event each year.'
Liz O’Hanlon, Kent Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, presented the awards to the anglers. She said: 'The money raised will provide three cancer patients and their families with an average Macmillan financial grant. This could be used for a wide range of practical needs. Typically this could be fares to and from hospital, heating bills, washing machines and other household items to make life easier for cancer patients and their families.'
