The men from Cheeseworks
Local men strap on their boots to raise money for people affected by cancer
Four local men, who work at a family run cheese production company near Cranbrook, are taking part in the Three Peaks challenge on 11-12 June to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Luke Stimson and his brother Dan were touched by cancer when their father passed away five years ago from the illness. With their friends and colleagues, Stuart and Ben, they have all decided to do the mountain endurance challenge as a team building event and to raise money for a great cause.
The men all work at Cheeseworks in Colliers Green near Cranbrook. The company specialises in stocking an extensive range of local cheeses as well as other catering products including cured meats, bread, bacon and olives from across the UK and Europe.
The Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest mountains in England, Wales and Scotland: Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. The men plan on completing the challenge in 48 hours over the weekend. In addition to climbing the three mountains’ collective height of 11,178 feet, they will also aim to cover the total driving distance of 1338 miles within the 48 hours space of their challenge. After they get back late at night, they will return straight to work the next day.
They have already raised £500 for their event and are aiming to raise £5000. This would be enough to fund a Macmillan information and support centre for a working week and a Macmillan nurse for over two working weeks, meaning that more people living with cancer get the vital support that they need.
Luke said about their challenge to raise money for Macmillan: 'After our dad passed away from cancer, we wanted to do something to help other people affected by the illness. Macmillan supported our dad a lot while he was living with cancer, and we’re pleased to be able to do this challenge to make a difference to a worthwhile cause.'
Fundraising manager, Laura Kennedy, is grateful for their fundraising support: 'We want to thank the men at Cheeseworks for showing such dedication to help people affected by cancer by doing this fantastic challenge. It will no doubt take a huge amount of stamina and endurance on their part and it will make a big difference to improving cancer services in the local area.'
