The Captain and members of Bearsted Golf Club have raised £3,350.15 for Macmillan through the Longest Day Golf Challenge.
Richard Lamb, who has been a member of the club since 1987 decided to support Macmillan after losing his mother and aunts to cancer. Since then, he has done inspirational work on behalf of Macmillan by initiating golf competitions, raffles, world cup draws and even auctioning a Ryder Cup hat.
Regarding his motivation behind choosing Macmillan, Richard said: 'They helped my family a lot; Macmillan were very good to us and I wanted to give something back.'
And when asked if people in a respected position, such as he is, should use it to help charities he said: 'Absolutely. There so many different charities, you have to make your own choice, but it’s always good to support them given the opportunity.'
'Being in a position such as the Captain of a Golf Club gives you that kind of opportunity.'
Richard’s initiative and selflesness following a family tragedy is not only an inspiration, but a worthy example of the great difference one person can make.
